At Piazza Trading, our goal is to bring people together to allow for the exchange of cultural goods and philosophies. Gallery Piazza and the Piazza Showroom have provided ongoing trade of goods and culture between Japan and the United States for the last 20 years. It is this continuous support of the cultural arts that allows Piazza to bring events such as Edo Shigusa to the Bay Area.
We celebrated our 20th anniversary year by producing the first Edo Shigusa seminar on August 4, 2009, and are proud to produce the second event on July 20, 2011 in collaboration with the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Norther California (JCCNC).
What Is Edo Shigusa?
Edo refers to the feudal Japanese era from 1603~1867. Shigusa means behavior or habitual behavior. It is also the manner of human beings. Good behavior or manners are very favorable for human social life because it provides they are the way of peaceful, happy living and harmonious relationships.
The idea of equalizing rights and duties for all people is ideal democracy. Understanding the fundamentals of Edo Shigusa leads to the happiness of human beings and true peace in the world.
